COURSE GOALS

          The course is designed to equip students with fundamental knowledge of quality management. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the role and principles of the quality management system within an organization
  • Identity internal and external factors that affect quality
  • Describe popular methods and standards for quality management worldwide
  • Use qualitative methods to control product/service quality
  • Realize the importance of quality management activities within the organization and demonstrate a commitment to building and maintaining a total quality management system in their future organization.

          At the end of the course, students will be evaluated against the course’s expected learning outcomes, using Benjamin S. Bloom’s taxonomy (1956).

Course Description

          The quality of products and services plays a pivotal role in the growth and success of a business; as a result, continuously assuring and improving quality to meet the pressing demands of customers is imperative. Many companies now realize that in order to be more competitive in the market, they need to take a comprehensive and proactive approach that encompassess a wide range of measures. One of these is the adoption of state-of-the-art management methods and internationally-recognized standards to be more effective and efficient in providing higher-quality products and services for customers. Together with this trend, the need for managers and non-managerial employees who have knowledge in quality management becomes more evident.

          The course covers critical aspects of quality management (ie. Principles of quality management, popular philosophy and methods in quality manangement, international standards in quality, TQM, improving quality and statistical quality control tools), which will be helpful not only for students wishing to obtain more specialized management knowledge but also for people who are holding managerial positions in businesses.
