On May 10th 2014, Thomas L. Friedman - the foreign affair columnist of New York Time, winning the Pulitzer Prize three times and also the author of “The World is Flat” - engaged in the talk show with the students from Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh city.
The board of organizers was very honored to welcome Pro. Dr. Nguyen Hoi Nghia – Vice President of Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh city, Pro. Dr. Do Phuc – Director of External Relations Department of Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh city, Pro. Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Rector of University of Economics and Law, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan – Director of Institute for Foreign Affair Strategy and more than 600 staffs, students from Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh city.
At this talk show, Mr. Thomas shared his thought about the world and its continuous movement. He explained why his book’s name was considered as “The world is flat” and the key to live well in the flat world: “Thinking like the immigrant, because they always crave for victory; Thinking like the handicraftsman, because they know how to make the specialized products for themselves; Thinking like the business man, because they always learn to create the new products; the last but not least, thinking like the waiter – who serve the adding value while think as a business men.”
In the discussion with students, he also talked about the level of the informational explosion in this flatter and flatter world; the impaction of the globalised progress is the chance as well as the big challenge that countries in generally and Vietnam in particularly might face to.
Answering the student’s question about China placed Haiyang Shiyou 981in Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone, he invoked the tale of chopsticks to state that Vietnam have to enlist the national support in order to form solidarity powers.
At the end of talk show, he autographed the gifted books for the students and affirmed his wish for the positive transformation of Vietnam in the future.
